Concertina doors for flexible, functional spaces

Commercial accordion-style folding walls that divide spaces instantly without permanent construction. Choose DuraSound for acoustic separation or DuraFlex for simple visual privacy.

FLEXIBLE ROOM DIVISION

What is a concertina door?

A concertina door is a flexible folding partition made from a series of interconnected vertical panels that collapse neatly to one or both sides of an opening. Unlike a permanent wall, the partition can be opened or closed whenever the space needs to change, making it ideal for buildings that regularly switch between large open areas and smaller functional rooms.
The terms concertina door, accordion door, folding partition and room divider are often used to describe similar systems. MPNZ specialises in commercial and institutional concertina doors rather than lightweight residential wardrobe-style folding doors. Our systems are custom-made for schools, childcare centres, churches, community buildings, sports clubs, offices and other high-use environments.
Both MPNZ systems operate from an overhead track, so there is no floor track across the opening. This leaves the floor clear when the partition is stacked away and allows rooms to be reconfigured quickly without permanent building work every time the use of the space changes.

TWO SYSTEMS, ONE JOB DONE PROPERLY

Acoustic or standard, built to your space

Both systems are aluminium accordion folding partitions suspended from an overhead track. The key decision is whether the spaces need meaningful sound separation or simply a flexible visual divider.

FLEXIBLE ROOM DIVISION

Choosing the right concertina door

Start with the job the partition needs to do. If people need to use both sides of the closed partition at the same time, acoustic performance is usually the deciding factor. If the aim is simply to create privacy, define zones or temporarily separate activities, DuraFlex is generally the more economical choice.

COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS

Where are concertina doors used?

Commercial concertina doors work best in buildings where the same floor area needs to perform more than one job. They allow a large room to become two or more smaller spaces when required, then return to an open layout without permanent walls consuming valuable floor space.

A few frequently
asked questions

Both are aluminium accordion folding partitions, but they do different jobs. DuraSound is a double-walled acoustic partition rated STC 43, built to significantly reduce noise between spaces. DuraFlex is a lighter, single-walled partition for sight and privacy separation only. If sound control matters, choose DuraSound. If you just need a visual divider, DuraFlex is the more cost-effective option.
